It seems that a good deal of MUDS members use the Firefox web browser, perhaps even more so than the general population.

If you use the Multiply Toolbar with Firefox, you're probably already familiar with the process of installing it directly from Multiply.com. (Visit multiply.com/toolbar, click install, restart browser, etc.) But if you've ever added any other extensions to your Firefox browser, you're probably familiar with the Firefox Addons site — addons.mozilla.org — a place where a great number of Firefox extentions are available!

We'd like to make the Multiply Toolbar available on the Addons site as well, so that it may find an even larger audience, but unfortunately, getting it up there isn't as simple as just uploading it.

You see, in order for an extension to be made publicly available, it must first be tested and reviewed by users of the Firefox Addons site. We've received a couple reviews so far, but we'll probably need more before the Addons editors will consider the Toolbar for public consumption.

So what we're asking you  to do, if you've used the Firefox version of the toolbar and have a few minutes to spare, is:

  • Register for an account with Firefox Addons. (Unfortunately, they require one to leave ratings... but once you're signed in, you can rate your other favorite extensions!)
  • Visit the Multiply Toolbar page on the Addons site. Please leave the extension a "star" rating, and if possible, a written explanation of how you feel about the extension. We're all about the integrity, and ask that you be honest. :-)
  • There is no step three. There's never a step three.

We greatly appreciate your help with this, and look forward to bringing the Multiply Toolbar to a wider audience!

I made a post in my group about tips for tweaking options in the Multiply toolbar. Some members commented that they didn't have anywhere near the options that I had. They said theirs were extremely different. Some members talked to them while I was gone, and it turns out they had IE. I understand IE, Opera, and Firefox have different toolbars since they're different browsers, but the IE folks are still using version 1.0 (5.0.1.265), and I have version 20080204.01 for Firefox. What major technical differences are there? Also, are there going to be any updates for the IE toolbar? I encouraged the user to just download Firefox.

The toolbar is great, I love it. There's one gripe I have with it, though. I'm a member of 16 groups, and I'm the admin of three. Some of the groups I'm in are MUDS, USG, Multiply Customized Themes, and Customize Your Multiply Profile, among other active groups. While I love being a member of these groups, and participating, of course, I would like to pin updates for only the three groups I admin to the toolbar. That way it wouldn't be flooded with posts from these other more active groups that I don't read "cover-to-cover," per se. I think it'd make the admin of all groups more effective, really.

Addition of Search "a Group" Option

Addition of New Invitation in the toolbar

I know this next onemight sound a bit too much for me to ask but since this is a suggestion post, might as well suggest (if it's feasible) to include alert sounds (with an option to play when a.someone posts a new content b.someone replies to your post c.someone sent you a PM d.someone sent you an invitation)

Let me start by saying that I have no clue how this would work in terms of particulars.  But I figure that's what you all can help to brainstorm out.

So here's what I'd love to see in the toolbar:

There are many times when I'll, say, click on the line on my message page that says something along the lines of "3 posts to muds."  This takes me to a page with all the latest posts from muds, including the 3 latest that I haven't viewed yet.  I'll then click on one of them, read the post, possibly reply, then I'm ready to move on to the next one.  Rather than backing up to the page that had listed all the latest posts, or rather than clicking on "my multiply" and starting all over again, what i think would be nifty to do is to just click a "next" button somewhere up on the toolbar that would take me to the next post in the stack.

Now this is where the particulars get iffy.  How does the toolbar know that I want to see the next MUDS post as opposed to the next New to Multiply post?  I don't know.  I haven't figured that part out yet.  So this is where I need some brainstorming help.  But still, I think the idea has possibilities.  What do you think?  Got any brainstorming ideas to add?

You may remember having seen our semi-recent staff blog announcement regarding the upcoming Multiply Toolbar.

"Upcoming" may be too strong a word, as it's available now, for Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers!

While it already works (and is awesome, to boot), we're not quite ready to roll it out to everyone on Multiply, so MUDS users -- feel special... for the time being. It's all yours until sometime early next week.

But, of course, there's some work involved. We'd like to you do a little more than simply use the toolbar... please use it and let us know what you think!

We not only appreciate your feedback, but know that it helps make Multiply better. So please, help us out. :)
