by Eilla for everyone
A question: Is there a wap page for Multiply? Any chance of that coming up? It's a pain trying to view the site on my pda and only to figure out that it doesn't work. It would be great to access the site using pda/mobile since we can't post via mms/email.

Anyone tried accessing this site through their pda?

Hey, this is a neat idea. I hope it does happen.

A PDA page would be nice too.

I'm able to view the site on my Treo700W and it looks ok. But it definitely hiccups when I look at a message that has a lot of replies, it'll bring up the warning that a script is running, do I want to abort or continue. If I stick it out, it'll come up (this has been useful since my work just blocked Multiply!) I've posted a few times from it, but mainly I'll use it to just catch up on a thread.

However, the other day, I was following a link in an email (read in gmail on my treo) and it routed me through google's gwt. That made it much much better. Check out: Google GWT. I think you can choose whether you want images to appear or not.

Works great on PocketPC! I browse it all the time, the only oddity is that my alerts don't get marked as read when i come back to my computer.

Google GWT doesn't work so well on Multiply since Multiply uses AJAX techniques to display certain content.

Good find though, I'll bookmark it on my MDA for other sites I visit :)

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you're getting at here. GWT generates Javascript code that uses AJAX for communicating between the browser and the server. What do you mean with your statement?

GWT is a Java toolkit that includes a custom compiler that converts the Java code into Javascript. This Javascript then talks to a customer browser library (for cross-browser compatibility) to do AJAX functionality with a server component. GWT would only be useful if 1) Multiply were written in Java and 2) they replaced their UI widgets with GWT widgets.

Maybe I'm confused, but viewing Multiply through GWT works fine for me (except for having to re-enter my password each time). I can view my Explore page, read posts and see people's headshots and photos, and make replies (like this one).

I'm sure it has limitations, but for simply keeping up with Multiply and making replies or some posts (the original poster mentioned just viewing it), it seems to do the trick (and much much faster/easier to navigate then going directly to Multiply from my phone).

Anyway, they can try it out and see, doesn't hurt!

Ah! Serves me right for not clicking links and just going by what was written. What you're seeing there is not GWT, but is a page that USES the GWT (Google Web Toolkit) to make webpages more accessible to screen reduced devices. Interesting.

I'm an engineer. I can't help but to be a stickler for using terms appropriately. :P

It suck to view it on my pocketpc. I prefer a wap page for Multiply. Ok, some can view it on theirs and some that can't, it's getting annoying to figure out solutions that aren't really foolproof. :)
