It seems that a good deal of MUDS members use the Firefox web browser, perhaps even more so than the general population.
If you use the Multiply Toolbar with Firefox, you're probably already familiar with the process of installing it directly from Multiply.com. (Visit multiply.com/toolbar, click install, restart browser, etc.) But if you've ever added any other extensions to your Firefox browser, you're probably familiar with the Firefox Addons site — addons.mozilla.org — a place where a great number of Firefox extentions are available!
We'd like to make the Multiply Toolbar available on the Addons site as well, so that it may find an even larger audience, but unfortunately, getting it up there isn't as simple as just uploading it.
You see, in order for an extension to be made publicly available, it must first be tested and reviewed by users of the Firefox Addons site. We've received a couple reviews so far, but we'll probably need more before the Addons editors will consider the Toolbar for public consumption.
So what we're asking you to do, if you've used the Firefox version of the toolbar and have a few minutes to spare, is:
Register for an account with Firefox Addons. (Unfortunately, they require one to leave ratings... but once you're signed in, you can rate your other favorite extensions!)
Visit the Multiply Toolbar page on the Addons site. Please leave the extension a "star" rating, and if possible, a written explanation of how you feel about the extension. We're all about the integrity, and ask that you be honest. :-)
There is no step three. There's never a step three.
We greatly appreciate your help with this, and look forward to bringing the Multiply Toolbar to a wider audience!
Ah, I'm sorry for forgetting to mention... I think the Addons site admins have to manually approve reviews that are written before they appear on the site. So if yours doesn't appear right away, I would think it will a little later.
rats! i added my review but hadn't noticed the place to add my star rating till later. (in fact, i really don't think it was there at all. i was looking at the two reviews already there and clicked on an "add your own review" link from there. wish i had just used the box in the upper right corner. :-P )
alleycat, did you have a yahoo toolbar running at the same time? that wretched thing conflicted with the multiply toolbar and gave me headaches as well at first. removing yahoo's toolbar fixed the problem. something along this line might help you as well.
I had it, installed it but it had Yahoo search on it... that was the only reason I uninstalled it now if it had Google search I'd still have it Just didn't like Yapoo staring at me all the time
I added a review. I'm with Missthemed here. I wish the search function wasn't there or at least that it had Google search. I never use that search for that very reason.
i was using IE then and yup i did have a yahoo toolbar been using firefox almost exclusively for quite awhile now so maybe i could give multiply toolbar another go i have google toolbar in my firefox no yahoo i have yahoo firefox in ie because i have ie6 ie7 was slow and cumbersome and slowed down my computer a lot i hate ie7 and firefox is ever so much better faster and safer thanks for the tip barefoot meg
I'll do it asap... thanks for posting this and also thanks to Linda for directing me here. I've been using Firefox and Safari for years (the former is more frequent) - IE? No thanks!
try it again and if you still have problems let us know. i've been using it since it came out without any probs.
i never use that search feature. i generally know where i'm going on multiply. i don't often stop to ask for directions. i think other things could be put there that would be more useful.

Mine said right away that I had to wait for approval.
I put my two centimes in. I never get the nickname I want anywhere. It's always taken - whichever one I pick. On lots of sites you have to wait for your comments to be approved, so no big deal there.
It's worth pointing out that before it gets put on the Addons site, the same-tab/new-tab functionality should be modified to behave like any other toolbar; Middle-clicking should open in a new tab, left-clicking should open in the current tab.
I didn't say that... he he he... I saw 3 updates on my inbox forget from which groups, I don't even remember which one I clicked before getting here... Thanks for the chuckle, Meg!

Hm... perhaps like a pull down menu with our groups on it?
I registered ...got an e-mail back right away and went to the page, signed in and gave it a 5 star rating. I just used my name from Multiply ( tina34 ) for the nick-name.
Hm... perhaps like a pull down menu with our groups on it?
hmmm, i suppose that would work. though i'm in too many groups to bother using this since i might end up scrolling for quite awhile.
i was thinking more along the lines of certain groups who's posts would have a section of their own (instead of getting lumped in with all the other groups posts in the summary section). i figure we could select 1 - 5 groups that we especially want to follow and be alerted about.
Hm... I think we need a poll in MUDS asking who uses the search and what to replace it with? I think the groups could work like our favourites... those with few will just have those and those with zillions can choose.

I Second The Suggestion We Need a Poll In This Thread...
I Also prefer to use the google search But will d/l yet again n install n test
I,ve also left a comment or too on ---> Reviews for Multiply Toolbar
I Left a pretty good review n plug BUT Was unable when i posted it to give it a star rating as it was not clicable at the said time.. WILL Try later if the edit has that option in my post

Mike, Ctrl + left click opens in a new tab. I am not sure if middle click is the standard convention. Can you cite other toolbars that use middle-click for this?

I gave it four stars. I hate Yahoo! search because the first million pages in Images are for Flickr. That's not obvious...

I noticed one of those reviews gave it a rave review in the comment but a 0 star rating. People, be careful!
The built-in Bookmarks toolbar and the Add-On ForecastFox, for two.
Both the built-in Bookmarks Toolbar and ForecastFox open in a new tab also on ctrl + click. In fact, on lesser OSes others than Linux/Unix where three-button mice were not common, ctrl + click has always been the way to open in new tab.
So I could argue that Multiply Toolbar's behavior of ctrl + click opening new tab is the "standard" behavior :-)
I am not opposed to add the middle-click behavior in principle, but I just haven't seen that as a standard behavior. I will keep that in mind for a future release.

i don't even HAVE a middle click. well... not that i know of. maybe someone needs to give my husband a few tips?

Erm, what is that? If Meg and I don't know what it is, and we're pretty computer literate, I don't know that it's a feature worth implementing.

If you have 3-button mouse (or a mouse with a wheel), clicking with the middle button (or the wheel) on a link in Firefox opens it in new tab. Pressing Ctrl + left click also accomplishes the same thing. Mike was asking for that behavior on the toolbar buttons too.
not until i can find it - which i assume means when it's through moderation.
if you log back in and go to reviews it will come ups what you write and then at bottom is edit i just do mine again cuz i not sure i do it right and it was there:)

found it! it's not at the bottom of the main page but on the separate page of reviews only (in case anyone else is looking for that edit link).
Some touchpad setups have three buttons, but most don't. In the Unix/Linux world, hitting the left and right mouse buttons at the same time typically simulate clicking a middle mouse button.
One popular Windows tool (PuTTY) mimics this behavior as well. (Along with other UNIX "oddities" like select-to-copy.)

I wasn't aware of that but it will make my life much easier. The wheel is still usually only for scrolling.
So I could argue that Multiply Toolbar's behavior of ctrl + click opening new tab is the "standard" behavior :-)
And considering I'd never heard of Ctrl-click, and middle-click worked in all other cases, I could likewise argue in favor of middle-click. :-)
Anyhow, I'm pleased to see Multiply Toolbar make it to the Add-Ons site. I use the toolbar extensively, with the exception of search. (Even more so than I'd used it the first time, thanks to your responses to my earlier review.) Let me know if you need a tester for beta revisions.
I went all out and got five buttons on my laptop mouse. lol Have yet to use the fifth one. Guess I should figure out what IT does. lol
My desktop rodent has 5 as well, the 2 normals, a "back" and "forward" browser combo, and the 5th one is in the wheel, it locks the scroll function so all I have to do is MOVE the mouse rather than spin the scroll wheel.
Does the tool bar still use yahoo... that wasn't the reason I got rid of it... I need to reorganize thiings and get it back.. but I was wondering since many groups on here google as well as adsence I just remember the tool bar using YAHOO and frankly I dont care for yahoo search.

Mine too but I quote you cus rodent made me chuckle
Correct me if I'm wrong. The Search box on the toolbar says yahoo but when you use it, it's powered by google. Just type something in there and yahoo goes away. lol
It looks like they still haven't approved the reviews from yesterday and today (grr) but before I forget, thank you all for your help!
They're going to see a huge influx of reviews, from newly registered accounts, all in favor of a particular add-on. They're going to be suspicious. Hopefully they let at least some of the reviews in.
I just checked and the reviews aren't showing... still!! :-(
The searchbar seems to be Yahoo powered... which does seem weird if so many users prefer google. Better yet, wouldn't it be best if we could choose the search engine we want to use?
if we're doing a search engine switch, i think i'd like to try lijit out. then people who maintain multiple blogs (using various hosts) would have the advantage that people could search not just through a person's multiply posts but among all of their blogs no matter where they're located.

We thought of that, so we e-mailed someone from Mozilla who apparently works on the addons site and linked them to this post with an explanation, so hopefull they'll understand.

Nope... I just checked it. Mine definitely comes up with Yahoo. My browser's default search is set to Google, so it can't be the browser overriding or anything. The toolbar says Yahoo and gives Yahoo.

i think if them see lotsa review and no downloads of the toolbar that woold be wierd Lol and hey how come i go to the inbox on the toolbar and i never log off?
