Welcome to the MUDS, the official Multiply Users and Developers Group.

As the name suggests, the purpose of this group is to bring Multiply's user and developer communities closer together; it's a place for users to ask questions, discuss thoughts and to offer tips to one another... and for Multiply staff members to do the same!

This is an "official" group, so staff members will actively participate in group discussions. Sometimes they'll even provide sneak peeks at upcoming features you won't see anywhere else. This is your chance to voice your opinion about features before they're released. This group will also be used to gather feedback from our users, to help make Multiply even better. Be sure to let us know how we're doing!

If you'd like to be notified automatically when something new is posted here, just join the group!

Hiyas MUDders!

I sent an email to Multiply Support, and Curtis was kind enough to redirect me here so I can get in touch with the developers and perhaps chin wag about this. I'll post my original email here (the pertinent bits):

I'm in the process of changing the passwords on many of my Internet accounts. My requirement is that they're a minimum of 14 characters in length, with numbers, letters (case sensitive) and symbols - the full gamut of ASCII 33 to 126 (32 would also be cool, but spaces aren't totally necessary).

The reason for this change is I suspect one of my accounts was hacked. The site in question is not giving me any hints except that there was "suspicious activity", so I'm doing this to be on the safe side. (And there's no customer service at that site. I'm sure many know which one I'm talking about by now.)

Unfortunately, while changing my Multiply password, the system advised me there was an upper limit of 12 characters. While this is "reasonable", there is, really, no technical reason for this limitation. Multiply should be storing passwords as hashes, and thus the length of the password should be entirely arbitrary (except so as to satisfy the W3C text input maxlength limit, if there is such a thing).

As such, although I've changed my password to one with 12 characters, my request is that your skilled techs alter the code to allow large passwords. This would not only satisfy my requirements, but your other members would also have access to more stringent and secure password support if they so desire.

Is there a technical limitation I'm unaware of? Enlightenment would be most.. er.. enlightening. ;>

As the ages growing near 50's , the get harder to read the small character as without wearing Plus eyeglasses.
But it more fun to read without glasses !!
So I always use CTRL/+ to enlarged the word to a journal in Multiply but it causing the the whole things to expand to the left and right side cutting the sentences on the screen.

I wish you guys could make some changes so things are like when I read an article in the WIKIPEDIA, no matter you enlarged the word's character the whole things are always in a good range to read on the screen without have to roll to left and right to read all the lines.
Thanks.

I've recently upgraded to OSX Lion. It takes some getting used to. But one thing that sorta grabbed my attention and threw it to the ground was the fact that upon backup with Time Machine, Lion looks through all your applications and throws away any that aren't compatible with it. I lost Appleworks that way, which I'd been holding onto tenaciously for those moments when it still worked better than anything else I had going on.

I just dumped photos from my camera to the new system and went to make sure Multiply's Autouploader was set up to get the pics to my medialocker, when I realized that the uploader is no longer in my Applications folder. I can only surmise that it's no longer compatible with the new operating bully system.

I'm now staring at 838 pictures and wondering how I should get them to my medialocker. *sigh*

The Content box Titles, and the posted Notes are in a  bee-ah-utiful green fancy font.

(The green isn't the query - anyone can  change a colour.)

But tell please...

What is the FONT used there?

Thank you very much

‘servicejack’ suggested I post this here for discussion – so here goes.

I have been stalked by a nutcase for 2-1/2 years here on Multiply.  I have reported over 200 ID’s for this cretin, and Customer Service worked with me in deleting them.  But when a determined person makes 5-6 ID’s a DAY, there’s not much you can do.  My page is only available to friends/their friends, and we are all very careful about this person and spread the word immediately when he starts making rounds.  Multiply told me they reported him to his internet provider but that’s the limit of what they will do – they will not block his access to Multiply.  My freedom of speech is curtailed, but not his – go figure.  This is the reason I didn’t renew my premium when it expired.

IMHO, there is a very serious flaw in the Multiply product and that is – EVEN WITH YOUR PAGE COMPLETELY CLOSED TO OUTSIDERS, THEY CAN STILL GET TO YOUR HOME PAGE AND SEND A PERSONAL MESSAGE – and my stalker does that.  He sends filth, porn and makes blasphemous comments.

I suggest that the Personal Message be controlled by the privacy selections, so that feature can be made unavailable to trolls.  Last spring several people got viruses via PM's.... it's rather like an email - once you open it, it's too late..... that's all the more reason to give the page owner control of who can send messages.  If you agree, let Customer Service know via the ‘Help’ tab on your page.

Upon clicking "My Account" within the Global Navigation bar/area, we are taken to our Account Summary page...and, with the current (only) "Preference", are able to activate the drop down menus in the header.

I, for one, would like to have another preference (capacity/ability)...that being the capacity to "fix" the Global Nav bar/area...making it accessible at all times...no matter where one might be scrolled to on any given page.

Thanks for your consideration
Pepper

I've seen this on WordPress and it makes it so easy to do a mass tag change there, you just go into your tags list and edit the tag itself, and it's changed for all the relevant posts.

here on Multiply I started a tag sort-out ages ago, but it's so tedious, so time consuming. yes, you can re-tag a whole bunch of posts at once in the media locker but you have to know which ones, and you have to tick the box for each one individually. the only way to get at all the posts that have a particular tag here is by clicking on that tag on your homepage, and then you get the posts in full, so it can take forever to go through them all.

Please could we have the ability to edit a tag?

I'm adding a screenshot from WordPress to show you what I mean: (click to view in full size)

Good morning, move with boxes on home page in Groups, where we have not use Music and Recipes is impossible ( to me only ? ). Several hours I am trying to move boxes on home page in our new Group ( where we cannot use Music and Recipes ) and set them. Every time I want open the box and edit, opened other box, what I don't want edit. Move boxes I cannot at all.
Can you give me some advice or help, please?

This way is without effect: http://usersupport.multiply.com/notes/item/8066

We know that in Groups are boxes in a specific order. Is it possible that the impossibility use music and recipes to cause this problem?

Thank you for your help
Gabriela

I have a Note that I deleted several months ago but every so often in the viewing history on my entire site I see where someone has "viewed" the deleted post.  How is that possible?

I see that Multiply now allows YouTube Video iframe code to be inserted.  It blocks any other iframe including those from other video sites, such as Vimeo.  I am guessing that the script looks to see what the source code is and if it is Youtube allows it and if not kicks it out.  It would be easy to add the other video sites' iframe code as well to the parse list.  Please consider adding other video sites as well to the list of allowed iframe video code.

I would like to remind all owners of private groups.
Please, check the settings of your Guestbook.
Although the group is private, Guestbook is automatically set to "everyone" and thus get your comments can be read by anyone on the Internet (also not logged in Multiply), who happened to appear your private group.

I tested it in three private groups.

Please, make the default in private groups - Guestbook be for the Group Members.
Thank you very much

Dear Multiply,

Just a quick letter to let you know I think this is a great place you’ve got here. I love the Groups especially, as from following an interest one finds people who can become buddies or friends

I appreciate the Groups which offer technical and design advice - Multiply Staff Blog, the Multiply User Support group and the Multiply Users & Developers Group; members helping members – a real community.

However, obviously no one is going to write with total admiration and affection. I have found a few “quirks” (shall we call them that? Or “needs”?). Let me elaborate on each.

Firstly – there is an obvious pattern of multiply coders and boffins totally ignoring Good suggestions posted by members at the support groups. Some of us – Many of us – are Totally Pussed Off by having the multiply entry page showing tweeny-bopper shoppers. Sure, multiply has a Marketplace division – but predominantly we members are here for Social Networking

I am asking for that flaming picture to be replaced
and why not replaced on a regular (say, monthly) basis, to keep the place alive looking.
The picture also needs to be shorter – no one scrolls down past it to see the three information boxes at the foot.

Secondly – the posting “tags”. If I click on a tag in the home page cloud, the results are shown on the query return page each post as its full entry, under the following “helpful” explanation:
What are tags? You can give your posts a "tag", which is like a keyword. Tags help you find content which has something in common. You can assign as many tags as you wish to each post.”

Please have your coders change these two things:

1.     – above that message your return page shows, let there also be something like

Your query for the tag [letter] returned 7 items”

2.     – have the results shown in a tabled list, Not as full posts.

Thirdly - please, find some young IT/web page admin interns and set them to work culling empty, unused Groups, and all references to them.

Fourthly – In a Group Profile, by default, have it reveal

1.     When the group was established

2.     When was its last posting activity.

With information like that revealed in a group search as well, we could more quickly discover which groups are active currently.

Fifthly – please have the support groups summarise the requests posted by your loyal members, and put the requests through some sort of “triage” sorting –
and Action those most requested and sensible.

Want more? Already probably, more than you can cope with. Don't panic – take a stroll out in the fresh air, put on a fresh pot of coffee, and then come back to this – and THINK about what’s asked. That’s all. (For now.)

Regards,

Lynne M-S

Is there a way to change ALL your blog posts from public to private ??
just say someone wants to change their access !
it seems to be a bit of a pain doing it one by one, especially if you have over 2000 blogs like me
some people get stalkers and decided they want to change their access
if there is not a quick way to do it then maybe it is something that Multiply could think about ?

thanks in advance

We should have the choice to turn off the share buttons on our site.  It is fine to add things to Multiply but the user should have some control over certain things, like people being able to share or tweet or whatever our content.  Therefore, add to our control panel a checkbox to "Turn off share buttons".

Im just seeing this go around and the STaff blog has nothing there. Now I see this line of FB, twitter and other GARBAGE...on my pages to share. Will others be able to use these or is it just me? Plus if I have my privacy set up not for the public will others still see this and still be able to share my stuff? Im not happy about this change. I blog here cuz its private. If its not staying private, Ill be slowly removing my stuff and shutting my page down. Trust me, many others will too. One of the things we loved about this site was the privacy controls. Now you have linked to FB and twitter ,,,,,,,,,its all gonna go in the can.
